What is a favicon?
Although you may not be familiar with the name ‘favicon’, you will more than certainly have come across numerous favicons whilst browsing the web.
A favicon is the small icon which is displayed at the top left of your browser tab:
Why are favicons used?
The majority of people now surf the web with multiple browsers open at any time, it is therefore much easier to navigate your way back to a particular website if there website has a favicon.
The important of a favicon to your brand
We all appreciate the importance of logos and brands, they are what visually connects us to a company. What would Nike be without their well know tick? Or Twitter without the little blue bird? Whether it is an extension of your company logo or an entirely new visual representation, a favicon functions like a miniature logo. It helps internet users remember your brand.
Introducing a favicon to your website may seem like a small gesture, but visitors will notice and appreciate what it signifies and in turn this adds credibility to your website.
How to create a favicon
Favicons are only 16 pixels in height and 16 pixels in width so it’s worth keeping the design simple and clearly identifiable.
At Entyce we consider the design of a company favicons as part of branding and while we are designing websites.
